Grid Connection Solutions
Grid Connection Solutions for Synchronous Generators
Some synchronous generators cannot be connected directly to the electrical grid.
In certain projects, the available short-circuit capacity at the point of connection is limited, and the grid operator requires the generating plant to contribute only a restricted short-circuit current. Under these conditions, direct connection of the generator may not be permitted.
To address this requirement, Valiadis S.A., in cooperation with EEI (Equipaggiamenti Elettronici Industriali S.p.A.), supplies Active Front End (AFE) static converter systems installed between the synchronous generator and the utility grid.
Grid Compliance
The converter electrically decouples the generator from the grid while transferring the generated power with high efficiency.
Besides allowing grid connection where short-circuit contribution must be limited, the converter provides accurate control of power quality and operating parameters, enabling compliance with applicable grid requirements.
Typical Applications
This solution is particularly suitable for generating plants based on:
- Biogas
- Small hydroelectric installations
where synchronous generators remain the preferred generation technology but grid connection requirements cannot always be met through direct coupling.
Integrated Solution
The solution combines Valiadis synchronous generators with EEI power electronics, providing a complete engineering package for power generation and grid connection.
