Reverse Engineering 710-2
Reverse Engineering a 710 kW Medium-Voltage Motor
We completed the delivery of a 710 kW medium-voltage motor for Jordan Phosphate Mines, developed as a direct replacement for an existing Siemens machine. The objective was straightforward: replace the existing motor while leaving the installation itself unchanged.
The original motor was a Siemens type 1LA33262KE70Z, rated at 6.6 kV, 50 Hz, with a nominal speed of 3,000 r/min.
Recreating the Existing Interface
For a replacement of this kind, matching the electrical rating is only part of the requirement. The new motor must also reproduce the mechanical interface of the existing installation: mounting dimensions, shaft position and geometry, frame arrangement and the other features that determine whether the machine can be installed without changes to the surrounding equipment.
As the original Siemens dimensional drawings were available, there was no need to physically measure the existing motor. Our engineering team developed a new set of manufacturing drawings for the replacement motor, translating the existing dimensional requirements into a new machine design.
710 kW at 6.6 kV
The new Valiadis SA motor was rated at 710 kW, 6.6 kV / 50 Hz, with a nominal speed of 3,000 r/min and a service factor of 1.15. A true drop-in replacement. Frame size 710, with B3 mounting, self-lubricated sleeve bearings, IC511 cooling and IP55 protection.
From Original Drawings to a New Machine
This project illustrates one of the practical advantages of reverse engineering in industrial motor replacement.
Where reliable original documentation is available, the essential installation dimensions of an existing machine can be accurately matched while a new motor is engineered and manufactured around those requirements.
