Repairs, as Usual

Custom End-Shields for an Obsolete Small Motor

A small, discontinued motor from Carrier recently arrived at our facility for repair. During inspection, we found that both end-shields had bearing housings out of tolerance, making reliable operation impossible.

Due to the geometry of the original parts, repairing them wasn’t feasible. So, we moved forward with a complete in-house replacement—manufacturing brand-new end-shields from aluminum, using our laser cutting and precision machining tools to ensure an exact fit.

What we did:

  • Full motor disassembly and inspection

  • Dimensional verification and reverse engineering

  • Laser cutting of aluminum raw stock

  • Machining of new end-shields to spec

  • Assembly, testing, and return to customer

It may have been a small motor, but the attention it received was anything but.

At Valiadis S.A., precision is not reserved for the large and complex. We bring the same level of care to every job—because every motor matters.

Fully Customized

Non-Magnetic, Fully Customized
Defense-Spec Electric Motors for Naval Use

We were commissioned to design and manufacture two electric motors, frame size 160, intended for operation on board a navy vessel. The challenge: the motors had to be free of magnetic materials on their external surfaces, in compliance with special defense specifications.

To meet these requirements, we implemented a range of non-magnetic material solutions, including:

  • Aluminum motor frame

  • AISI 316 stainless steel shaft

  • All screws and lifting lugs made from AISI 316

  • A custom-designed polyester fan cover, reinforced with an AISI 316 air inlet

To ensure fit and finish, we even created a dedicated mold for the polyester fan cover—crafted entirely in-house. In the final photo, you can see (from left to right):

  1. The original steel fan cover

  2. The custom mold

  3. The two finished motors, with their polyester covers and stainless-steel inlets

All this—for just two motors.

Because we care about the details, and we love creating specials.

Pass – No Pass

Pass – No Pass
Precision in Motor Repair

Behind every reliable motor lies a repair process grounded in precision. One of the key steps in our workflow is the inspection and control of bearing journals and housings—a critical factor in ensuring proper fit and long-term performance.

When required, we machine surfaces back to exact tolerances, and our use of pass/no-pass gauges allows us to verify those tolerances with speed and confidence. This method not only improves accuracy but also maintains workflow efficiency without compromising quality. Our shop is equipped with a wide selection of gauges to cover various bearing sizes, enabling us to maintain strict control over end shield tolerances.

In a world where technologies evolve rapidly, we continue to combine proven mechanical methods with modern inspection tools—ensuring transparency, repeatability, and trust. Whether for in-house checks or demonstrations in front of the customer, our goal is always the same: longevity and reliability for your motor.

Medium Voltage

Medium Voltage
Export-Ready for Demanding Industry

Another medium-voltage motor leaves our facility—engineered, tested, and packed for shipment to a steel plant abroad. Built to perform under heavy industrial loads, this motor is part of a long-standing effort to provide reliable, adaptable solutions to the most demanding sectors.

A key feature of this motor is its multi-position terminal box, which is mounted with a slight inclination. This design allows the terminal box to be easily rotated and mounted on either the left or right side of the motor. The result? Greater installation flexibility for the end user and a smarter warehouse strategy.

By reducing the variety of motor types needed in stock, the client can streamline inventory, minimize lead times, and improve operational efficiency across multiple installations.

Versatile. Robust. Built for steel.
We deliver medium-voltage motors that adapt to the real-world needs of modern industry.

Clones for Turbine

1MW Clones for Turbine Start-Up
Reverse-Engineered Double-Shaft Motors for Power Plant Application

When reverse engineering meets high-stakes performance, Valiadis delivers. We recently completed the first of two 1MW / 2-pole electric motors, fully reverse-engineered to serve as starter motors for a power plant turbine.

The project involved:

  • Recreating an old Alsthom motor

  • Achieving a matching or improved torque-speed curve

  • Integrating a double shaft configuration:

    • One side coupled to a pony motor

    • The other to the turbine shaft

The customer provided a damaged original motor, which we used as a reference to carefully study the stator and rotor construction. From there, we engineered an optimized solution, maintaining full dimensional compatibility while ensuring reliable and efficient turbine startup.

The first motor has already initiated turbine operation, and the second unit is en route to complete the system.

Reverse-engineered. High-performance. Mission critical.

Recovery

Dust, Cement, and Cooling Recovery
Maintenance Case from a Cement Plant Motor

Electric motor maintenance is a daily operation at our repair shop—and each case brings its own challenges. Recently, we received a motor from a cement plant, operating in a highly dust-laden environment. Upon arrival, the motor frame was clogged with hardened cement, which had severely compromised its cooling system.

Our team took the following steps to restore performance:

  • Performed a chemical cleaning treatment to remove all cement residues

  • Carefully dried the motor in our thermal oven to eliminate moisture

  • Completed a full mechanical and electrical overhaul

  • Applied a new protective paint coating

Once reassembled, we carried out no-load testing, confirming that the air-cooling system was working properly again. This step is crucial to ensure proper airflow and avoid winding burnouts caused by overheating.

Routine maintenance like this doesn’t just fix problems—it prevents future failures, protects efficiency, and extends motor life in harsh conditions.

24/7 Rewinding

24/7 Rewinding for Water Supply Reliability
Emergency Rewind for 200 kW Water Jacket-Cooled Motor

When a local water company requested an urgent rewind, our service shop immediately switched to 24/7 operation. The motor in question—a 200 kW, 6-pole, water jacket-cooled unit—plays a vital role in delivering fresh water to an entire town.

Currently, the motor is undergoing a complete rewinding process, which is expected to be completed early next week. Once rewound, the motor will be:

  • Treated using our VPI (Vacuum Pressure Impregnation) system

  • Baked to ensure insulation stability and moisture removal

  • Subjected to comprehensive electrical testing, including a withstand voltage test at 2Un + 1000 V

Every step is carried out in-house, with strict quality control and full traceability.

This motor is more than a machine—it’s part of a public lifeline. And with proper service, it’s set to keep running for another 30 years.
