Explosion-Proof Motors

Explosion-Proof Motors for Demanding Environments

Not all motors run in ordinary conditions.
Some are installed in places where heat, dust, gas, or pressure can turn a minor fault into a major risk. For those situations, explosion-proof motors are not an option — they are a necessity.

At Valiadis, we stock and supply a wide range of ATEX-certified electric motors, specifically engineered for hazardous environments across industry and marine sectors.

Our motors meet strict international standards and are trusted across installations in oil & gas, chemicals, mining, food processing, grain handling, and more.

A Day in Motion — Dispatch from Athens Facility

At our Athens facility, motion is part of the daily rhythm. Forklifts navigate the yard, lifting, aligning, and loading. Heavy-duty electric motors — carefully packaged, documented, and assigned — move from the production area to outgoing trucks.

Each dispatch is more than a shipment. It’s the closing step of a process that begins with precision manufacturing and ends with reliable installation at its final destination. Behind every unit, there’s a project advancing, a team preparing, a system in motion.

Operations unfold steadily. Hands work in sync. The yard hums with purposeful tempo.

One of those days. A day when coordination, clarity, and momentum come together.

From production to packaging, from Athens to destinations across the region, everything flows forward.

Status in motion.

Reverse Engineering

Reverse Engineering in Practice: From Legacy to Marine-Grade Performance

On the left, an original Leroy Somer electric motor, purpose-built for a YORK compressor. Specs: 325 kW – 3574 RPM – B35 – IP23 – 660V – 60Hz – Frame 315

On the right, a newly manufactured motor by Valiadis Hellenic Motors, the result of a full reverse engineering process. Although visually similar, it is in fact a new machine—engineered from the ground up, not merely replicated.

This version incorporates:
• A custom-designed shaft for compressor integration
• A bespoke flange adapted to precise mounting requirements
• A reengineered winding layout for thermal and operational optimization
• Full upgrade to marine-grade specs, including materials and insulation systems suitable for vessel operation

Reverse engineering, when done responsibly, is not about imitation—it’s about re-understanding. In this case, our task was to interpret a specific historical design, adapt it to current needs, and align it with modern marine standards. The result is a drop-in replacement motor that not only respects the original application but is also technically and structurally enhanced for more demanding conditions.

These projects are not uncommon in the field, especially when legacy equipment must be maintained but original parts are obsolete or no longer supported. Recreating such motors requires access not only to design capability and machining infrastructure but also to the unwritten know-how of how machines behave over time in real-world environments.

We approach such cases not as vendors but as colleagues—engineers supporting engineers—where the goal is continuity of operations, technical clarity, and enduring performance.

Before & After

Before & After: Electric Motor Maintenance
Workshop Feature

At Valiadis S.A., we continually invest in technologies that enhance the quality and precision of our work. One of the most effective tools we’ve added to our workshop is ultrasonic cleaning—a process that uses high-frequency sound waves to generate microscopic bubbles in a cleaning solution. When these bubbles collapse, they dislodge dirt, grease, and residues from even the most intricate surfaces, without damaging the underlying material.

This advanced method is now fully integrated into our daily maintenance and refurbishment workflow, ensuring that each component is treated with maximum care and technical efficiency.

The images shown here demonstrate a recent example involving a low-voltage electric motor:

  • Background: The motor immediately after undergoing ultrasonic cleaning.

  • Foreground: The same motor, fully refurbished and ready for delivery.

At Valiadis S.A., we go beyond standard repair. Our approach blends engineering precision with attention to detail, so that every motor we return is not only functional, but also clean, reliable, and ready to perform at its best.

Refurbished & Revitalized

Refurbished & Revitalized
Maintenance Project Update

Some machines earn their legacy through years of dependable operation. These electric motors, originally delivered in 2007 as part of a major irrigation project in combination with KSB pumps, recently returned to us after nearly two decades of continuous service.

They came in for a scheduled overhaul and bearing replacement—a preventative measure to ensure longevity and optimal performance.

We carried out a full technical inspection, followed by a complete restoration. Our Maintenance Department handled every aspect of the process with care and precision, ensuring all work met the highest standards of quality. Now fully refurbished, these motors are ready to go back into service and continue powering vital irrigation systems for years to come.

Refurbished, revitalized, and set to power many more irrigation seasons to come.
