Slip Ring Motors – Romania
Two 500 kW Slip-Ring Motors for Lafarge Ciment Romania
Valiadis S.A. has supplied a matched pair of medium-voltage slip-ring motors to Lafarge Ciment (Romania) S.A. for its operations in the Romanian cement industry.
This type of motor is particularly suitable for heavy industrial applications involving demanding starting conditions. By allowing external resistance to be introduced into the rotor circuit, the slip-ring configuration can provide increased starting torque while limiting starting current.
The two identical machines were manufactured and delivered together, providing Lafarge with a coordinated pair of motors built to the same operating and installation requirements.
A Closer Look at the Machines
Each motor has an output of 500 kW and operates at 6,000 V and 50 Hz. The four-pole design gives a nominal speed of 1,482 r/min, with a stator current of 60.4 A and a power factor of 0.85. The slip-ring rotor circuit is rated at 700 V and 443.6 A.
The machines are horizontally foot-mounted in IMB3 construction. They incorporate IC611 air-to-air cooling and an IP54 enclosure, and are designed for continuous S1 duty with class F insulation.
Manufactured in April 2008 in accordance with IEC 60034-1, each motor weighs approximately 4,373 kg.
PS: From Lafarge Ciment Romania to ROMCIM
At the time of this delivery, the customer operated as Lafarge Ciment (Romania) S.A.
In 2015, Lafarge’s Romanian operations were acquired by CRH. The company later operated as CRH Ciment Romania and, in 2021, adopted the name ROMCIM.
Today, the former Lafarge Ciment Romania business continues under the ROMCIM name.
